Libearty Bear Sanctuary Zărnești – A Peaceful Refuge for Rescued Wildlife
Set in the hills near the town of Zărnești, Romania, the Libearty Bear Sanctuary offers more than just a home to rescued bears – it provides a second chance at life. This live camera brings you up close to the everyday world of brown bears living freely in an environment built for their safety and dignity.
Spread over 69 hectares of oak forest, the sanctuary is home to more than 100 brown bears, most of whom were rescued from abusive conditions: cages in private yards, circuses, and illegal zoos. Many of them spent years in captivity. At Libearty, they find a place to roam, climb, bathe, and simply be bears again.
The live feed captures the bears in various states of activity, depending on the season and time of day. You may see them walking through wooded paths, cooling off in water pools, playing with each other, or resting in the shade. The sanctuary provides large, natural enclosures – not zoo-style exhibits – so the behavior you’ll witness is natural, undisturbed, and authentic.
Throughout the year, the landscape changes: lush green in spring and summer, colorful foliage in autumn, and snow-covered tranquility in winter. The bears respond to these rhythms, often hibernating during the coldest months or becoming more active during cooler mornings.
The Libearty Bear Sanctuary is managed by the Millions of Friends Association (AMP), a Romanian non-profit that has gained international respect for its work in animal protection. The facility not only cares for bears but also educates the public about wildlife conservation and animal welfare. Visits to the sanctuary are possible through guided tours – and this live cam offers a small glimpse of that experience, wherever you are in the world.
Watching these animals in a peaceful setting is a quiet reminder of their strength and resilience. It’s also a testimony to what compassionate intervention can achieve.
